According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s president, tests and vaccine for the new coronavirus are not the magic solution for everything.
Thomas Bach said in the IOC’s virtual press conference that they are paying attention to every little details regarding the safe organization of the Olympics next summer. Although, he cannot give definite answers as the Covid-19 situation is changing day by day. However, their team is working on different scripts for the event.
Social distancing could be one of the main elements of the measures.
The IOC is also paying attention to the news of the production of quick tests and vaccine, as their existence will ease the preparation.
All we can say right now is that we are trying to create a safe environment for the attendees.
Bach was optimistic about the availability of the quick tests and vaccine, but doesn’t consider them the “silver bullet.”
For now, it seems that no matter will happen in the future regarding the virus, the Olympics will be held.
This crisis requires sacrifices and compromises from all of us. If we need quarantine in order to keep everyone safe, we will do it.
The postponed date for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games is scheduled to be between July 23 and August 8, and the Paralympics is set to be from August 24 to September 5, 2021.
