Champions League: Two Players Missing From Spandau

On Wednesday, Szolnok and Spandau will meet in the eighth round of the Champions League tournament. Two players won’t play from Spandau, so this opportunity might give Szolnok a big chance. The head coaches elaborate on the upcoming match.

Živko Gocić, Szolnok’s head coach says

Our last performance in the National League showed that we had not got ourselves together after the long break. We hadn’t played official matches for 2 months just like Spandau because of the European Championships.

He also added that they won in December (14-10), and it was an important victory.

The next match will be very tough. We have to perform over 100%. Our victory in Berlin is only worth it if we can beat Spandau in our pool as well.

Petar Kovačević, Spandau’s head coach also mentioned that this will be their first match after the long break, and that it will be a difficult meet.

We had 11 players who played in the national team during the Europeans, so we had a very short preparation time. It is always difficult to play in Szolnok, and now we will be missing Dmitrii Kholod and Marko Stamm. We have to take care of this situation, and the team needs to have responsibility.

The two teams will meet on 5 February at 7pm in Szolnok.
