Croatia will have one final chance to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics this summer in a qualifying tournament to be held in Rotterdam from 22 to 29 March.
At the draw held at FINA HQ in the Swiss Lausanne on Tuesday, Croatia was placed in Group B along with teams from the Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Argentina, and the second Asian representative.
Croatian head coach, Ivica Tucak, seems to be unhappy
about the draw, but he says they “have to the best and finish this story.” This refers to the team’s performance at the European Championships (they finished 4th
) in Budapest and not earning their Olympic quota there. He really hopes the team will take their last opportunity to prove they deserve to be in Tokyo.
The reason why this news that this is their last chance to qualify for Tokyo is shocking is because Croatia is one of the few countries where water polo is considered a national sport and they always finish atop of any tournament they participate in.
