The first qualification round of the LEN Euro Cup was completed today. Mediterrani, Miskolc, Eger, Montpellier, Mataro, Solaris, Noisy-le-Sec and Ortigia will in the second qualification round.
LEN Euro Cup QR 1, Day 3
During the first match of the day, Mataro trashed AZSC Antwerp in Group A in Split. The first quarter started with a 5-goal lead that just kept increasing and increasing until the final stopped at 23-7 (7-2, 7-2, 4-1, 5-2).
Mornar, the home team, had to beat Mediterrani by a goal to advance to the second round. Unfortunately, this was no made possible as the Spanish team bet them 10-6 (4-1, 3-1, 1-1, 3-2). Mornar showed a great game, but they were not able to catch up to Mediterrani.
Group B matches were held in Eger. Solaris defeated Shturm 2002 Ruza 17-8 (5-2, 5-2, 3-1, 4-3) while Eger won against Radnicki 11-6 (1-0, 1-1, 4-2, 5-3).
In Malta, Group C played. First up, Noisy-le-Sec defeated Posillipo 13-7 (3-2, 3-3, 3-1, 4-1). During the first half the game, both teams played equally, and the match was determined in the second half. Noisy-le-Sec scored a total of 7 scores, whereas Posillipo only scored 2.
The second match in Malta was between Miskolc and host Valletta. This match seemed to a be a piece of cake for the Hungarian team. Miskolc finished the qualification rounds with a 3-0 win after beating Valletta. finished the tournament with a 3-0 record, as it easily beat host Valletta today.
Finally, Group D played in Syracuse. First, Montpellier bet Partizan 14-10 (3-2, 4-4, 5-4, 2-0). Then, Ortigia met with Apoel where Ortigia tremendously won with a final score of 25-3 (6-1, 8-1, 5-0, 6-1).
