Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain welcome the water polo delegation of RFEN (Spanish Swimming Federation) formed by the water polo national teams, their staff, RFEN President D. Fernando Carpena and other presidents of clubs. The delegation was also accompanied by José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, Minister of Culture and Sports, Irene Lozano, Secretary of State for Sports and President of the Higher Sports Council.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia congratulated the teams in the private royal Zarzuela Palace in Madrid for the great sporting successes in Budapest at the 34th LEN European Water Polo Championships. The women’s team won the tournament after beating Russia in the Finals while the men’s team finished second after losing to Hungary in the PSO.
Side note: this was the Royals’ first public appearance after the funeral of Princess Pilar de Borbon on Wednesday, who died of colon cancer aged 83 earlier in January.
